they are so materialistic! i go on hundres of black kids pages on crushspot and all i read is gotta be geared(nice clothes and shoes)

gotta have long hair.. blah blah. its like all they care about is appreance and they all like the same stuff like music and movies and if you like stuff like rock or don't watch stupid movies like scarface (i prefer the quality of a good movie like the godfather over that crap) then you "white" or just wierd. sometimes it gets on my nerves so much i'm actually ashamed to be black. Grownups..and others where do you think we went wrong?

Here is my theory:

Since Black Americans these days are the products of slaves now liberated, there is going to be a climate of "we gotta get ours" among Black people as a whole. Understand...not every Black person feels this way. Some do very much, some it is subconscious, some refuse to admit it. The materialism thing is sad because many Black people in the "ghetto" could make it out and be living a decent life if they could forgo the Nike Jordans every 2 months, serial clubbing each weekend, spending $500 on new urban clothing every month and we can't forget the elaborate sound systems in vehicles. When you see people that fit this prototype, run for the hills. Yes, they will make fun of you. If you don't concur that 50 cent's latest album is the gospel and if you you dare wear a comfy pair of no-name sneakers and discount clothing, YOU are a threat to them and their mindset. They are threatened by your refusal to conform and seeing you makes them question their own motives on some level.

Sadly, most new school Urban Blacks are like stock characters in a played out script. They don't want to be reminded of the struggle We as a people had to go through to GET them able to purchase Jordans and $3,000 Orion stereo equipment, but they want to act like hooligans in public, make a bad name for ALL of us and act like the WORLD owes them something while doing it. Ever seen a Black chick with a trail of ducklings behind her with a TANF purchase at the store? Proud as hell to be a loaf on the government's tit, and don't anyone dare look her way in contempt. Makes me want to puke. Really, like 7 "baby daddies" ago she should have woken up and smelled the unemployment office.

Then there is the whole "being white" thing. That perturbs me too. It's like, if you use proper grammar and speak intelligently, you are not Black. Well, I'm far from White, and I like to use the English language properly and have people understand the words that are coming out of my mouth and consider me for carreers and positions other than those of menial duty.

You are not the only one. I went through this growing up. I had 4 true blue friends in high school. A cool as hell gay guy, a Laotian nerd that ended up being my best friend, a "unique" white girl who could see the future (really), and one other Black guy who everyone dissed because he was gifted as hell. You know, we the people with 4.0 gpa's aren't Black enough to hang out with the "cool" kids who are having sex at 16, ending up pregnant at 17 and standing outside the clinic in the cold trying to scratch crotch rot discreetly...yeah, glad I passed that title of cool by.

Honey, be thankful to be here and have enough sense to realize you are an individual, not a color. Life is so precious and short. Let me tell you, I got some updates on the "cool" mofo's from my Senior year who clowned me at every turn 9 years ago. This girl Leah (yes, odd name for a Ghetto assed Black chick, I know) who made jokes on me every day over my Wal-Mart shoes is now living in a recovery home for crack heads. Her last kid was taken away from her 3 days after delivery and put in foster care, and her "baby daddies" to 2 other kids are in jail, and one is on crack himself. Then, another girl that clowned me is working a pole at some strip club and hooking on the side...no big surprise here, she too, has 3 different "baby daddies", and ONE on the way!! She doesn't know who is this one's father.

So...be yourself and keep your head on straight and you'll be fine. I went to college, got my Bacherlor's degree in business WHILE doing time in service, and married a good man with a stable carrer, had 2 kids, money in the bank, home and two cars, and we are doing fine. Who's "cool" now? See who gets the last laugh? Keep your head up and just laugh at those idiots. You have the power to be the change.

They are just picking the American way of thinking that everything has to do with how much you have. The reason they reject white things, is because they want to distinguish themselves. I blame it on the music. The reason I hate rap is because MOST (I'll admit, there are SOME good rap songs) rap songs are ONLY about how much money that rapper has, and how many women want to be with him as a result of these things. If their eyes are fixed on those people as role models, then what those rappers say will (however subconsciously) shape how those kids think.

When I was a young white kid, and got the opportunity to work along side and be mentored by older black folks (they were called black or ****** back then), I learned a tremendous amount about how important a solid work ethic truly is. Most of them could have been retired, but the idea of lounging around was simply unthinkable to them. Same with the older whites I encountered

Now, it seems work ethic and discipline are as obsolete as telephone operators and gas station attendants. Black kids, incidently, have no monopoly on this quest for "hassle-free" instant self-gratification. Why work to support your pregnant girlfriend when the government will do it for you? Why work when it so much easier to sell drugs?

Corie I commend you girl! I am racist and white. When I say racist I mean I dislike a majority of blacks not all. But it is blacks like you that can make a difference in how everyone views blacks.
