What Dog Should I get?

I'm lonely and I want to buy a dog but i want one that doesnt grow big. I want a small cute dog. My grandmother had one that was soooo cute and he was small with gray and black hair. i didnt know the breed (i know nothing about dogs) and i want one just like him. can anyone give me any ideas of the types of dogs i can get, where to buy it and also some literature on how to take care of it? i.e. sickness, food, vets, symptoms, etc.

firstly you need to learn lots about dogs - some breeds are small but hyper and will be destructive if you dont have alot of time for them.. some larger breeds are quieter in nature and gentler...

DONT get a border Collie or Jack Russel Terrier - in fact stay away from all terriers - these are not dogs for first time dog owners - they are intelliegent and will destroy your home if their mental needs are not met

I would suggest a Pug, Bichon, ShihTzu etc..

BEST place to get a dog or learn about them is your local Animal Shelter/SPCA

they will let you visit/walk the dogs there so you can learn stuff and they have pamphets for free to educate you and when you are ready to get one they will help you pick the best one - also mutts make good pets too

NEVER NEVER get from a pet store - they are overpriced and the lowest qualtiy

I would suggest an adult dog - because puppies are more destructive and need housetraining (which is a 24 hour day job for 3 weeks)

They are small, the shedding is limited if you bathe it once every other week or so, and it has a record of being really easy to house break. Very sweet tempered dog and loves kids. OK... First things first... Small dogs are usually stubborn and stupid... I know this from experience... But once you get past that... You probably want something like a Cocker Spaniel or a Schnauzer... They are really good usually... Try to stay away from the Terriers... They can get mean... Another thing is if you want it full blooded or mixed... Full blooded ones are good for AKC and you can take it to shows and things... But you are looking at about $200 - $300 for one... Mixes are nice cause they are cheaper to buy but you don't know what traits they will have...

Please don`t go to a pet shop to buy one because the poor dogs usually come from "puppy mills" Try to find one at your local pound or SPCA where you can choose each other.
