Why are some Hispanic girls so obssessed with their appearances? Cultural thing?

Some of my best friends are Hispanic and they're always dieting and engaging in weird beauty rituals, always checking themselves out in window reflections, wear tons of makeup. I KNOW it's not ALL Hispanic girls (Note my use of the word "Some"), but I find some are way more serious about diet and makeup and hair then my white friends (white girls are more natural and personality-conscious) and my black girlfriends care about how they look, but they don't have the stiffness and paranoia that some Hispanic girls do. Is it a cultural thing? Is it very important for a girl to be 100% gorgeous and be perfect and doll-like in Hispanic cultures?

I dont think its a cultural thing its just a female thing. We all want to look beautiful, have a perfect body, good skin and nice hair and some peolpe have to work for it if they aren't already natural that way.But yeah i do notice that hispanic girlas tend to wear more makeup. I used to do that, but too much doesn't look good and its better to go as natural as possible with the makeup. you're supposd to enhance your features not cover it up

Yes, it is definitely cultural. I'm married to a Mexican and Portuguese man, and I find that I've changed the way I fix myself up too. It's because I'm always around Hispanic women, and the ones I know are very critical of themselves, and other peoples' appearances. I'm sure it's not ALL Hispanic women though.

What you describe has nothing to do with culture! It is a feminine trait world wide. Women do it according to the technical and social possibilities of their culture but it is a female standard nonetheless.

I've know and been with a lot of Latinas and never heard of them always dieting...but the make up...haha That's true.

You need to look at univison, telemundo, ect.... it is stiff competition for Latinas in central and south america. All of the girls have good looks. They bring this mentality/culture to the states.

..Really? Most if not all of the Hispanic girls I see around here look as if they don't put much into thier looks...

I don't think more Latin women are this way than any other group. Latinas are just more outward with their feelings.

Latins wear there feelings on their shoulders and its what makes them very special.
