How do u get rid of cradle cap???

I have a little African-american girl (6 months)... actually she's of mixed heritage, but I just check the box African-American on all of her record... anyways I digress. Her hair is curlier and softer than many Af-Am babies due to her background. She also has ALOT. However, I have heard horror stories about parents trying to get rid of cradle cap and causing their kid to go bald. And then the baby comes back with terrible hair!

What can I do in this situation???

I need to get rid of it!

Any people with mixed babies or black babies especially care to share???

I used the equate gel baby oil. It worked miracles! I used the soft baby brush because the comb would just irritate the scalp and make it come right back. Yes this does make the hair greasy but nothing baby shampoo cant wash out. Two times of this and my daughter never go it again!oh I forgot to say... my daughter is mixed also I am white and her dad is black.

Try Gentle Naturals cradle cap shampoo or put sum baby oil in her hair and try combing it out gently. But it doesn't bother her it bothers us moms more, my son still has it and he's 3mths.

My son had it really bad when he was about 6 months as well. What I used to treat it was baby oil and a comb to comb it through.

"How is it treated?

Generally, cradle cap does not need to be treated as long as it doesn閳ユ獩 bother you or the baby. Sometimes it itches.

The gentlest treatment is to simply rub a small amount of baby oil or olive oil onto your baby's scalp. Wait several minutes for the oil to soften and loosen the scales, and brush them away with a soft brush or a dry terry-cloth washcloth.

If the cradle cap is especially pronounced, or if your baby is over six months old, you could also wash the hair with a seborrhea shampoo, such as those containing selenium, salicylic acid, or tar. These shampoos don閳ユ獩 have the "no tears" factor, so be careful or your child may not like bath time as much as they usually do.

If the cradle cap is especially reddened or inflamed, a small amount of over-the-counter cortisone cream may help.

These measures may be needed, off and on, until your baby outgrows the condition. Nevertheless, if the cradle cap does not respond rapidly to these treatments, be sure to inform your pediatrician."

put baby oil on it rub it in real good it'll come out if you want comb it the baby oil will loosen it and give the babys head the oil it lacks [why it got cradle cap] and when its gone after baths put baby oil or lotion on the babys head to keep it from comming back

p.s it only makes there hair fall out if you scratch it off with out anything you'll be suprised how well the baby oil works

i've got my little 7 month old and she still has a tiny bit of cradle cap. i used to pick at it every once in a while until she learned how to push my hand away... lol... so i stopped immediately... so i just let it go with the flow now and it'll come off when it comes off.

i don't think it's unhealthy... may actually help protect the skin, not sure.

it's pretty common for babies to get some bald spots or even a little mohawk look, but the hair that falls out can always grow in differently... even another color.

I found something called "Cradle Cap Care" - oil free. I wanted everything prepared and "the best" before I had my baby. (Now 1 month old)

It didn't work. It almost seemed to make it worse.

My mother in law said to just use baby oil. The cradle cap was gone within a day.

Just use baby oil. Trust.

Mustela foaming baby shampoo..Oh this stuff smells so good. And it's good for gently treating cradle cap. It's made for newborns, just like all Mustela stuff, and it washes out the cradle cap a few shampoos at a time. Mustela's products are kinda pricey, but I've used this one foaming shampoo since Zacky was born sixteen months ago, and there's plenty left :)

Cradle Cap is generally a build up of skin that hasnt been washed off..... you need to know that once you get rid of the build up, how to keep it away!

When we wash our hair, we do it vigorously, thus removing dead skin cells each time - brushing and combing also helps stimulate the scalp and get rid of the dead skin cells just waiting to be shed.

I always found that soaking the scalp in olive oil..... yep....... just like the one you use to make dressing!!! and leaving it a couple of hours, then using a comb to remove the build up gradually. Remember that the skin under the crap may be sensitive, so take care. Shampoo will always get rid of the oily residue!

Good luck!

  1. Hey, thanks for that great investigation work on biosilk, i've been using it for some time now but always wondered what was in it. I don't see why our whores would smell worse than yours though.
