My 12 year-old daughter wants to see My Chemical Romance in concert...is she too young?

My 12 year-old daughter is a big fan of My Chemical Romance. I don't care for emo music, but I'm willing to put up with it for one night for her. The rest of our family listens to classic rock and pop-punk. She's a mature kid and she reads on a high school level. She hasn't started dying her hair black yet, but she's got that whole sad emo downcast look with the short hair parted on the side and covering one eye down pat! I was just wondering if she's too young to be attending an M.C.R concert. I'd be interested in others' opinions on the matter. Thanks! (why can't she listen to Green Day like her brother?!?)

As long as you go with her, I don't see any problem. My parents took me to some pretty random concerts when I was young and I turned out fine!

Get some black clothes and earplugs and give her the best night of the summer!

When I was probaly 10, our parents took us to see Skid Row and Bon Jovi - I turned out Ok.

Please respect her individuality. You should let her go but not alone... does she have a an older cousin who is willing to go with her. I like my chemical romance. Tho u think their emo... the songs have meaning to it.

Concerts are great. if you don't mind the swearing. she getting old enough to make decisions on her own and i think it should be up to her. freedom to choose is what my parents taught me.

I'd say yes. Don't hold her back from things even though you may be a bit worried. It's her unique personality so there's no need to compare. Remember kids just want to find out who they are and recognize their individuality. Let her do that. Let her go, but make sure you go or there is another adult attending. You may not like it but she'll love it- and you for letting her go =)

As a father of young daughters I'm dreading these kinds of decisions in the future. :)

I'm an MCR fan and have been to their concerts, if you're going with her, and are fine with the odd "cussing" then I'd say you're good. Also I'm assuming you'd be sitting in the stands and not "moshing". That being said, allowing her to go will open the door for future concerts and teenage activity, so be prepared for her to push your limits (I know as a kid I did). No need to let her grow up too fast..

good luck, I'm sure you'll make the right choice..

I don't think you should be comparing her to her brother what makes Green Day better then My Chimecal Romance, I think you should take her it would make her happy you might want to make sure she doesn't cut herself at night.

If you would take her to a Green Day concert then I think MCR is just fine.

ye i think you should let her go to the gig, not only would it be amazing but if you 'ban' her from going she might resent you for it and then rebell by doing things that she knows you would shock you %26amp; you dont want her to do. I missed out on seeing them when they were in brighton %26amp; i was gutted but even my freind who wen twith her dad said that she thought it was auwsome

that should be fine although i warn you there will be profanity(swearing, "hand gestures"...) and don't worry mcr aren't that emo, so if she does look up to them she shouldn't become depressed, sucial and all those other emo assumptions...

lol no of course not. But try to get seats. if she hasn't been to one of there concerts or any concert before get seats so she can see the crowd and how it sort of works. bc there will be pushing and all that. Then for her next concert go into the pit. But yes make sure you are with her. They are Awesome in concert. You would probably have fun :-) [ i once saw some er older older ppl there and they looked to be enjoying it and also i have seen kids as young as 5 there and they did great at the concert ] Make sure to bring a good amount of money bc she will probably want to buy stuff . oh and yes there night be some language but er yea. well that's all the advice for now. Hope you have Fun :-).

I don't care what i say in between songs but what i say in them is what counts most - Gerard Way [ MCR fav quote ]

i went to their concert, if you bring your duaghter, make sure you have seats. also, gerard says the f-word on stage, idk how you feel about your duaghter hearing that....he doesnt use them in a disgusting way though, just like he would use some adjective...anyway, the concert was really fun, and safe, and there is nobody smoking or drinking. the band is a very moral band, and dont allow things like that. hope you have fun at the concert!!

As long as a responsible adult is with her, I say it's okay.

  1. My chemical romance isn't "emo"
Even the lead singer Gerard Way sad so. They're alternative rock. I don't think they're a bad influence, but if you don't like them she could go with a cousin or an older friend
